An 11-year-old baseball card collector in L.A. got the pull of a lifetime! He found the only Pittsburgh Pirates Paul Skenes autograph card that came with the patch that he wore during his Major League Baseball debut. Skenes was the top of the 2023 MLB Draft and continued to have a great season in 2024. USA Today says it best. "He was an All-Star, finished third in NL Cy Young Award voting and win rookie of the year honors after 170 strikeouts in 133 innings in his pro debut."
While the card starts at 1 million, it's likely to raise significantly. However, the Pirates want the card for themselves. They want to have the card on display in PNC Park. They even said they were willing to make a deal. The Pirates would give the boy two jerseys autographed by Skenes, a chance at batting practice with the whole team during spring training, and nearly 30 years of season tickets with prime seating behind home plate. This may sound like an amazing deal to those uninterested in sports, however the Pirates weren't good enough in the 2024 season to even make playoffs. Also, these are the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 11-year-old boy lives in Los Angeles, California.
What the kid will choose is yet to be known.
