Big, Round, and Ready to Waddle

A mysteriously round and possibly pregnant beaver has been spotted waddling around the Southwest Side, per URBAN RIVER. The wildlife nonprofit has been tracking the beaver via cameras along the Chicago River near Pilsen, Bridgeport, and McKinley Park.

The beaver has been nicknamed everything from Lori Heavyfoot to Sigourney Beaver on Reddit, but Urban Rivers is letting the public vote on its official name. While beavers are usually streamlined and agile, this one has been extra chonky for longer than a typical pregnancy.

“It’s just a beach ball waddling real slow,” said Stephen Meyer, Urban Rivers' Volunteer Coordinator. The final name will be revealed when the beaver gives birth—if she’s actually pregnant!
