Jerry Reinsdorf, who's owned the White Sox since 1981, reached a framework agreement with Justin Ishbia, a billionaire and minority investor in the team.
Over the next two years, Ishibia will inject fresh capital into the club as a limited partner, helping pay down debt and fund operations.
Then, starting as early as 2029 up to 2033, Reinsdorf has the option to sell his controlling interest to Ishibia. If he waits beyond, Ishibia can exercise the option after 2034.
This agreement does not immediately transfer control of the White Sox. Reinsdorf retains full authority until and unless he decides to sell. Ishibia is currently a minority owner of the White Sox.
Fans hoping for a prompt change should be ready for a long wait. This will be a gradual shift, not an immediate handover.
