Need Some Free Therapy? Try Screaming At The Lake

A group has been meeting at the lakefront every weekend to try a new kind of therapy.

While it may seem unorthodox, Scream Club Chicago has been meeting every Sunday to scream out their feelings.

You can find the group meeting at North Avenue Beach, being led by founder Manny Hernandez.

According to ABC 7, Manny is "a men's transformational coach and breath work practitioner who recently moved to the city from Los Angeles."

More people join every week to scream out their troubles alongside supportive others. Even children are encouraged!

Mamie Amin spoke on bringing her 5-year-old daughter:

"We've had a lot of change in our life lately, and my daughter has been feeling a lot of feelings, and I feel like it's a really good thing for her to see grown-ups handling all their sad, hard feelings in a healthy way."

Scream Club Chicago's co-founder Elena Soboleva shared a similar sentiment.

"It's really a safe space," Soboleva said. "A community where you feel supported, you feel seen, and a place to just be."

Each participant is given a piece of biodegradable paper to write their frustrations on. They all take a deep breath, throw the paper into the water, and then scream three times into the lake.

"There's things that happen in our everyday life that we don't necessarily know how to deal with," Hernandez said. "And I think that we're all just balls of energy of things that happen in our day-to-day lives, and we just hold on to the at stuff a lot."

If you'd like to join, the group meets every Sunday at 7 pm near Castaways.
