Joe Sass, a crossing guard for Jamieson Elementary School, has recently received a boat-load of attention from the media after jumping into action (and water/sludge) during the winter storms Chicago has been facing.
Sass, who was noticing flooding at important intersections near the school, took initiative and ended up carrying a child across the intersection.
"Itâs amazing. Itâs very humbling. I love my neighbors. For me, I donât think Iâm doing anything extra to help someone in my neighborhood or the city, for that matter. I think itâs great to be a helpful Chicagoan, love your neighbor and help out where you can." says Sass, interviewed by WGN.
Friends of Joe Sass have opened up a GoFundMe as a way of showing gratitude for his selflessness. Half of the funds raised will go to Project Hood--which aims to serve underprivileged communities.
